Jean-Claude Chanudet who currently runs this Domaine was amongst a small group of winemakers (Jules Chauvet, Guy Breton and Charly Thevenet) that decided to produce natural wines in times when the word organic would have pompous wine connoisseurs sneering with laughter.
For this reason, Jean-Claude refuses to certify his wine organically, although the vineyards are cultivated strictly according to organic methods, saying that conventional wines should declare their wines "produced with chemicals".
And the wine itself? classic Morgon; light, refreshing and breaming with dark fruit, a layer of complexity and acidity the stretches the pallet without making it a heavy sip. Somewhat tight tannins in this 2017 "baby", which will loosen with time. 10 years of ageing potential.
Located in the heart of Beaujolais, Domaine Joseph Chamonard is a small estate now managed by Geneviève Chamonard, daughter of the founder, with her husband Jean-Claude Chanudet (aka “Le Chat”). The latter is part of a handful of winemakers who subscribe wholeheartedly to the natural winemaking movement. Together with his wife, he produced wine of great purity and authenticity from the vineyards surrounding Villié-Morgon
