Roditis Amphora

"Greek Orange Wine" Achaia, Greece
Roditis Amphora

A juicy orange wine made from the Roditis grape variety, macerated for 20 days in antique amphora fermentors followed by further 6 months ageing in outdoor buried amphora. In the glass, an alluring translucent bronze colour, well-integrated tannins, joyous acidity and long aftertaste. Aromas of honeycomb, orange peel, and intense minerality. Serve chilled but not very cold (30-45 minutes in the fridge)

INFO ON GROWER

Sant'Or Winery is a family-run estate situated in the Peloponnese region of Greece, near the city of Patras. The winery is managed by Panagiotis Dimitropoulos, who cultivates 4.5 hectares of vineyards biodynamically at an altitude of 600 metres, without the use of irrigation.

The vineyards are certified organic and biodynamic, adhering to Demeter standards. Panagiotis focuses on indigenous Greek grape varieties, including the rare white grape Santameriana and the red grape Mavrodafni, which he vinifies into dry wines.

In the cellar, Sant'Or employs natural winemaking techniques. The Roditis Amphora, for instance, is a skin-contact wine fermented and aged in 200-year-old local reclaimed amphorae. The fermentation is spontaneous, using wild yeasts, and the wine undergoes a 22-day maceration without pressing, followed by six months of maturation in large clay amphorae buried outdoors.

Sant'Or's commitment to sustainable viticulture and traditional methods results in wines that are expressive of their terroir and reflective of Greece's rich winemaking heritage.
