A distinct (and somewhat distinguished) example of Roditis maceration wine; it is made from 100% hand-picked and carefully sorted Roditis parcels and vinified without any additions. It is barrel fermented with a lengthy maceration on the skins for 30 days with further 12 months in used oak barrels, unfiltered and unfined.
It is a joyful wine that is full of life and power; cloudy orange in the glass, nutty aromas, ripe apricot and honey on a vibrant, complex and rich palate of racing acidity, juiciness and marked tannins. Dense texture with a long saline/salty finish.
It is best served at 10-12c and paired with mezze, Mediterranean salads or baked trout.
Domaine Tatsis is a family-run winery located in Goumenissa, a historic wine region in northern Greece. The Tatsis family, originally from Ano Vodeno in Eastern Romilia, settled in Goumenissa in 1924 during the population exchange between Greece and Turkey. Since then, they have been dedicated to viticulture, cultivating their vineyards with a deep respect for tradition and the environment.
The estate's vineyards are situated on the hillocks of Libaskerit and Gerakona, areas known for their calcareous, non-irrigated soils. These conditions, combined with low-yielding vines, contribute to the production of high-quality grapes. Since 1998, Domaine Tatsis has practiced organic farming, and in 2002, they adopted biodynamic principles, further emphasizing their commitment to sustainable agriculture.
In the cellar, the Tatsis brothers, Periklis and Stergios, employ low-intervention winemaking techniques. They utilize spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, avoid the use of sulfites, and bottle their wines unfined and unfiltered. This approach allows them to produce wines that authentically express the character of their terroir and the indigenous grape varieties they cultivate, such as Xinomavro, Negoska, and Roditis.
Domaine Tatsis is recognized for its dedication to natural winemaking and its role in preserving and showcasing the unique viticultural heritage of the Goumenissa region.
