Rosso Uovo 2019

A new wine by Joy Kull, the winemaker behind the ground-breaking “La Villana” winery based in the town of Gradoli, northern Lazio. The grapes for the Rosso Uovo come from old vines planted in the 1930s that produce a painfully low yield but one that is superbly concentrated and flavourful. Joy “raised” this natural wine in special, egg-shaped concrete tanks that she believes will help this wine evolve over time and give it an excellent ageing potential. We agree, but we also think that it is a delicious and interesting natural wine to drink right now; ample wild, red berries fruitiness served on a silky and lively material. It lines the palate with generosity and offers a bit of complexity to make it stand out. We recommend serving slightly chilled (about 10-15 minutes in the fridge) and opening 10-15 minutes before drinking.
