Easy drinking, fresh and light Portuguese red wine, an anomaly? certainly not when it comes to some of the red wines by Joao Taveres in the Dao that see very gentle extractions and pressing. Being a 2016 vintage gave this natural wine enough time in the bottle to integrate well, however it doesn’t lack explosiveness and livelihood. Bursting with aromas of ripe sour cherries, a touch on balsamic and earthy tobacco that continues seamlessly onto the palate. A little piece of trivia, the Rufete variety is in fact a synonym of Trousseau from Jura. We recommend serving lightly chilled with charcuterie and mild soft cheese.
