A stunning evolution from the previous year, the Lancié 2019 vintage delivers a tighter, more deeply concentrated core while retaining that unmistakable Nestor Bélicard soul. Where the 2018 vintage was a generous, fleshier dark-cherry hug of a wine, the hot 2019 season traded that initial roundness for a tightly wound structure and vibrant, lip-smacking acidity.
Pristine red cherry and wild strawberry notes take center stage, swapping the 2018's delicate florals for a distinct, smoky element think a cheeky touch of dry barbecue char that beautifully mirrors its heavy granite origins. It is a slightly leaner but far more complex beast than the previous year, with fine-grained tannins anchoring a savory, mineral finish.
While both vintages carry that familiar Gamay charm, the 2019 sits with a more serious, focused posture compared to the approachable warmth of the 2018 she's a little more grown-up, but still knows how to party. Serve it cellar temp (around 14°C) alongside charred chicken, a flame-grilled artisan burger, or a rich steak.
Halfway between Lyon and Mâcon, in the hills of northern Beaujolais, Domaine Nestor Bélicard brings together centuries of family tradition and a fresh vision of winemaking. In 2017, Nestor returned to his childhood home in Lancié to take over the family vineyard, reconnecting with his roots and embracing organic farming and natural winemaking.
The estate began its organic conversion in 2018, with a focus on hand-harvesting, traditional goblet pruning and working the soils without synthetic pesticides. In the cellar, fermentation takes place in century-old wooden vats, using native yeasts and minimal intervention, with little or no added sulphites.
Covering just 5.5 hectares, the estate produces Gamay from the renowned terroirs of Fleurie, Morgon and Beaujolais-Villages. The wines combine vibrant fruit, freshness and structure, expressing the character of their soils with finesse and authenticity.
Deeply rooted in Beaujolais history yet looking firmly to the future, Nestor is part of a new generation of winemakers proving that natural wines can be soulful, balanced and full of character.
